"An error does not become a mistake until we refuse to correct it"
There are several other documents available, from statements from other Family Members, to Government Documents & Records. Please note in document #2 listed Bishop Mc Kinney & Bishop Dixon knew of my identity and remained silent. But let me clarify, Bishop McKinney is one of the most Godly men I know, and I have not one negative word to say about him & Bishop Dixon. In fact I can only speak good things about them both!
Bishop McKinney has been like a surrogate dad for me, both him & Sister McKinney welcomed me into their Family and treated me like a son. Yes, both Bishops and others do know of my identity. Bishop Mc Kinney even called and personally spoke with then Presiding Bishop Ford to confirm my claim. Bishop Ford verified that my claim was true and from that day forward Bishop McKinney has never denied my identity to anyone. God knows we need more men of integrity like him in positions of Church leadership.
It is time to stop the deceptions and coverup's. Let us speak openly about errors that past Church Leadership has made. To continue to hide it means that you are condoning it.
God is looking for Holy Vessels, not afraid to stand up for the truth. Even if it cost them a "position" or "favor" with the church elite. Jesus didn't call you to "Prosperity Pimping" or "Position Jockeying", He called you to "Holiness".
After writing Bishop Charles Blake and the entire General Board of COGIC every week continuously for 4 Months, he finally responded with a letter saying: how much the Patterson Family has meant to COGIC and how he understands my pain, but doesn't see how there is anything he can do.
And with the greatest of respect for Bishop Blake, I ask. If the former Presiding Bishop; Members of The General Board; Sever Bishops & Elders played an active role in the cover up of my identity... why can't the Church play a role in reconciliation & helping correct the terrible injustice they played a role in helping to create?
Here is what I would like to see. Bishop Blake can ask all Patterson Family members who hold Offices in COGIC & I come together & talk, and suggest we resolve this issue with dna testing. That is not asking a lot.
If this were based on my dad's actions alone, then I don't think the Church would have any moral obligation to help make things right. But this was not just the actions of my dad alone. It was several Bishop's, Pastors & Elders (including General Board Bishop's). Out of all of them, only Bishop Louis H. Ford had the courage to say to me: "I'm sorry, please forgive me for the part I played... I had a blind loyalty to your father and I feel like I helped to steal your birthright".
Bishop Ford's words have gone a long way in my family's healing. The problem is, they were said in private. But the COGIC Officials lies and ridicule to my Mother, Sister & I were in public.
God bless the Church of God In Christ, may it grow & prosper always in Holiness & Truth!
